Please be Safe This Summer -- a note on hydration
Summer fun, especially when it includes activities such as soccer, can really cause problems with dehydration. We have seen kids go through their small water bottle during warm-ups, and have nothing left for the 1.5 hr practice or that one-hour game. Please ensure that your children have enough water to get them through the long summer work-outs! One trick to good hydration is to make sure that they show up at the field already fully hydrated - that is, monitor their water intake 4-6 hours before practice/game time, and they will be in good shape. Have fun, and GO SANTOS! |
Kentucky wasn't Blue, it was Yellow!! -- a short note from Jan Greve, Santos FC tournament coordinator
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend at the Bluegrass Invitational Tournament ("BIT") in Lexington, Kentucky over the weekend of May 15 &16, 2010.
Tournament results are available HERE (NOTE: scroll across bottom of page for age/gender group of interest; some scores are unavailable due to game cancellations on Sunday).
Santos FC was well represented with 12 teams (six boys team and six girls teams,
ranging in age from U10 to U17) participating in the BIT. The weather was
beautiful on Saturday, and even though we had some rain on Sunday, it didn't
appear to dampen anyone's spirits! I hope the kids enjoyed seeing some
different scenery while playing soccer, as there was even some sheep herding
going on in the background of some of the games on Saturday. The best sight of
all may have been all of the Santos yellow jerseys around the soccer fields and
the hotel! I think we showed a real presence at the BIT and have received
feedback from the tournament organizers on what a nice club we have! Thanks for
everyone for making this a great weekend.
Congratulations to the U13 Boys & U17 Girls for being named champions of
their respective divisions, and to the U15 Boys & U17 Boys for being named
finalists, along with all of our teams for putting forth a great effort over the
weekend!
Go Santos!
Jan Greve
Psssssssssst: Hey, players and parents, over here, yeah - you, shhhhhhh...just listen...
please take a moment to thank Jan and all of the other Santos volunteers who go quietly about their business to make this the best youth soccer club in Columbus!
THANK YOU !!
PS Calling out all bloggers! If you would like to provide a short write up (with or without pictures) of your teams' experience for our tournament page, just drop an email to us
Here. We can't promise you'll be famous, but, hey, it could happen!! Thanks again to everyone, and Go Santos! |
Congratulations to the 2010 Bob Davis Scholarship Recipient!!
The Tri-Village Soccer Association and Santos F.C would like to congratulate John Swinford, the recipient of the 2010 Bob Davis Memorial Scholarship awarded by the Kiwanis Club of Northwest Columbus. The scholarship is named for the late Dr. Robert E. Davis, one of the founders of the Tri-Village Soccer Association and a strong supporter of all of our community's soccer programs - recreational, club and middle and high school. Without Bob’s foresight and dedication, our children might not have the experience of playing and learning soccer in such a positive and supportive environment. Every year since 2005 the Kiwanis Club of Northwest Columbus has awarded the Bob Davis Memorial Scholarship to a graduating senior from either Upper Arlington, Grandview Heights or Marble Cliff. The scholarship is awarded on the same basis as all other Kiwanis scholarships. Best of luck in the future, John!

Thanks to All Who Donated to the Shoe Drive!!
We'd like to thank everyone who donated to our collection of soccer shoes (eleven boxes full!!) for the Shortwood United Football Club in Jamaica. This venerable club has been supporting football for 33 years in the Shortwood Road - Constant Spring Road area of Kingston. Many of their players have gone on to play at the highest levels both in Jamaica and elsewhere. Their club motto says much about their philisophy: "The race is not for the swift, but for those who can endure". You can read more about their history at the website link above.
Special thanks to Lori Valachovic, Debbie Brannan, Mark and Brenda Brienza, Craig Smith, John Jentgen, and of course, Maziya. Your generosity is greatly appreciated both in Jamaica and in the Tri-Village. You can read the letter of appreciation we received from the president of Shortwood United FC, Mr David G. Batts, HERE (pdf). Pictured below are a few of the Shortwood teams -- the 2010 Syd Bartlett team (left) and the 2009 U20 Womens squad (right). We wish them the best in their current campaign! Go Shortwood! |
